There is no single price list for a European move, because no two moves are the same. The following factors are what removal companies actually assess when building a quote.

Volume of Your Belongings

Volume is usually the biggest single driver of cost. The more you are moving, in cubic metres or by room count, the more space, packing materials, and crew time your move requires.

A one-bedroom flat costs less to move than a four-bedroom house, simply because there is less to load, pack, transport, and unload. Decluttering before your survey is one of the few ways you can meaningfully influence your own quote, since it reduces the volume a company is pricing against.

Route and Destination

Distance affects fuel, driver hours, and route planning. A move to northern France or Belgium generally costs less to run than a move to southern Spain, Portugal, or further into Germany, simply because the vehicle is on the road for longer.

Destination also matters beyond raw distance. Island destinations, such as the Balearic or Canary Islands, involve a sea crossing in addition to the road journey. City-centre addresses with restricted parking or narrow streets, common in older parts of Paris, Madrid, or Berlin, can also add time and labour on collection or delivery day.

Part-Load or Dedicated Service

This is one of the most significant choices you make, and it affects both cost and timing.

A part-load service (sometimes called a shared or groupage service) means your belongings travel alongside another customer's consignment on the same route. This generally costs less, since you are sharing vehicle space and running costs, but it usually means a wider delivery window since the vehicle may make more than one stop.

A dedicated service means the vehicle is booked for your move alone. It costs more, but gives you a tighter, more predictable collection and delivery date, which matters if your timeline is fixed.

Neither option is universally cheaper or better. The right choice depends on your volume, your flexibility on dates, and your budget.

Customs and Documentation

Since the UK left the EU, every European removal involves customs paperwork that did not exist before. Preparing this properly, rather than as an afterthought, affects both cost and how smoothly your move goes.

Typical requirements include a valid passport, a detailed inventory of the goods being shipped, and proof that you are relocating your main home. Some moves may also qualify for Transfer of Residence (ToR) relief, which can reduce or remove import duty and VAT on personal belongings, provided the application is made before your goods arrive at the destination. Storage

If your UK moving-out date and your destination moving-in date do not align, storage bridges that gap, and adds to the overall cost. Storage needs vary by move: some people need a few weeks of temporary storage while a completion date shifts, others need longer-term storage during a renovation or a staged relocation.

Time of Year

Demand for removals is not constant throughout the year. Peak periods, such as school holiday windows and the summer months, tend to see higher demand, which can affect pricing and availability. If your dates are flexible, moving outside peak season can work in your favour, both for cost and for the range of collection dates on offer.
